Practice

Through her estate planning practice, Karen Loulakis provides services to high net-worth personal and business clients using sophisticated legacy and succession planning strategies and advanced estate and charitable planning practices. This essentially includes liquidity planning and the creation of various business entities to serve her client’s needs. Karen integrates her practice with other professionals who provide financial or accounting services to her clients thereby facilitating a team approach to estate and financial planning.

The estate planning department also provides services in connection with estate administration in all local jurisdictions and in connection with the preparation and filing of (i) Federal and State Estate Tax Returns; (ii) Gift and Generation-Skipping Transfer Tax Returns; and (iii) audit advice or representation related thereto.

Through Karen, clients can have access to software (i) which facilitates the organization of a client's financial data and allows for real-time valuation updates; and (ii) which can compare and contrast planning options.

The estate planning department also offers the opportunity to contemplate and document wishes concerning disability planning.

Education

She is a 1980 Boston University School of Law graduate and a 1977 cum laude graduate of Occidental College, in Los Angeles, California. Following graduation from law school, Karen fine-tuned her skills as a tax practitioner by spending time with a small Washington D.C. law firm and a national public accounting firm before joining and ultimately becoming a partner in the Washington, D.C. firm of Tucker, Flyer & Lewis, P.C. heading up its estate planning department. She founded The Law Office of Karen G. Loulakis located in Great Falls, Virginia in 1995 prior to joining the firm as of counsel in March 2005.

Activities

Ms. Loulakis is a frequent lecturer on Estate Planning and related matters and is a past instructor in the areas of (i) Individual Income Taxation and (ii) Estates, Trusts and Probate Administration and in the paralegal program sponsored by George Washington University, Washington, D.C.
